Fishing the Beartooths (FalconGuide)
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (May, 1997)
Author: Pat Marcuson
Average review score:

This book is indespensible for a Beartooth-Absaroka hiker!
Sometimes the hardest part of getting to Beartooth-Absaroka lakes is finding the trailhead. Great detail is given by Pat Marcuson in traveling this incredible area. After 50/60 trips into this wilderness I wouldn't be without this book! I met Pat several times in the late seventies and his knowledge of this area is quite remarkable and reflected in this book.

Absolutely as advertised-incredible detail
I've been there and the few lakes I've experienced we're exactly as described in the book. You can't value the information here! Great job.

Fortune's Twins (Millionaire, Montana)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (June, 2003)
Author: Kara Lennox
Average review score:

Delightful blend of good fortune and small town charm
The small town of Jester, Montana's dwindling population receives a miracle when the local lottery pool wins millions. An impromptu celebration at a bar forty miles away leads to unexpected results with a chance meeting, chemistry and a lost phone number. Gwen Tanner only has only the name Garrett and a memory of her twins' father.

Eli Garrett became almost obsessed with tracking down the beautiful woman from the bar. Every time his car restoration business led to the area, he searched for the woman whose phone number had disappeared into illegible smear. Then a picture on the front page of a newspaper jumps out at him. But it will take more than a bit of charisma to convince Gwen that he intends to stick around for the long haul.

Serendipity might have brought Eli and Gwen together, but it will take more than good intentions to find the road to happiness in FORTUNE'S TWINS. A delightful blend of good fortune and small town charm, the small town of Jester, Montana will capture reader's hearts. A fascinating cast of characters, including the quirky, the good hearted and the devious blazes a marvelous path to subsequent additions to the Millionaire, Montana miniseries. With her usual flair, Kara Lennox pens a charming tale that comes highly recommended.

Wonderful and satisfying read
While celebrating her share of the Millionaire, Montana lottery win, normally conservative Gwen Tanner goes wild and ends up in bed with handsome Eli Garrett. She never got his address and is happy enough that she's pregnant with twins as a result of that one night, but when Eli walks back into her life seven months later, he sets off all of her buttons--and all of Gwen's alarms. The town of Millionaire, Montana has been overrun with fortune hunters since their lucky lottery win. Is it possible that Eli is another fortune hunter? The evidence mounts suspiciously against him, whatever his words about wanting to move in and become a part of Gwen's life and the life of their children.

Harlequin American favorite author Kara Lennox delivers a charming and romantic story of broken trust and hope. Gwen is a fully developed character with issues. Her problems with Eli flow naturally from her character and add depth to the story. Eli is a wonderfully male guy, capable of causing heart-throb but of sensitive feelings as well. Familiar characters run through the MILLIONAIRE, MONTANA series and Lennox makes them her own, getting humerous relief from the host of small-town favorites. She also resolves the mystery that has run through the series, discovering the perpetrators behind the pavillion fire.

FORTUNE'S TWINS is pure enjoyment--and a classic example of the best of Harlequin American.

Great Ones: NFL Quarterbacks from Baugh to Montana
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (October, 1989)
Authors: Beau Riffenburgh and David Boss
Average review score:

The comprehensive guide to NFL QB trivia
Outstanding book. 11 years later (1988 publishing), it is still an entertaining and informative book that I often refer to during football season. I wish they'd publish an updated version. Many things have happened in 10 years - Elway's rise, Jim Kelly's 4 Superbowls, Brett Farve, Troy Aikman, Drew Bledsoe, Scott Brunell and Steve Young just to name a few. The book covers many interesting aspects - preponderence of star QBs from certain universities, aging not so gracefully, Steve Deberg's many trades, the QB class of 83, black QBs, "franchise" QBs that never materialized, etc. Highly recommend the book to any NFL fan. One of my favorite books on football.

Quarterbacks Uncovered
There is possibly no position in sports more difficult than quarterback in pro football. While many positions require skill, playing quarterback needs this as well as courage, leadership, and intelligence. The basic nature of the position is abstract to human or animal nature; where the quarterback is asked to stand tall despite the fact there are larger, stronger men attempting to "kill" him, and he must look 30 yards downfield while stepping up towards these men coming at him. He cannot attack these men, he must accept the punishment, and go on to the next play. Add the fact where defenses now are fully deceptive, and based on fully attacking this one position; and it's not an easy chore. The creation of the forward pass in football led to the earliest passers such as Sammy Baugh, and to the modern passers of Marino, and Elway. (Book is 1988 print) There are insights on all the greats, along with beautiful picture on these players along with the many others that made some contribution to the position. I have seen no other book to date that can offer the pictures on such a broad number of players in football. Along with the pictures are insights by many of the top minds in and covering the game. Whether it be Bill Walsh, Sid Gillman, or other coaches, there is something for any fan of their favorite quarterback. From Johnny Unitas to Greg Cook, any player deemed to have some effect on the game is reviewed. This book is a pure delight to fans of football, and it's most significant player.

Hidden Montana (1997)
Published in Paperback by Ulysses Press (April, 1997)
Authors: John Gottberg and John Gottberg Anderson
Average review score:

Covers inns, tours, drives, and outdoors explorations
Hidden Montana appears in its third edition to cover inns, tours, drives, and outdoors explorations throughout the state. From Glacier Park to Yellowstone, this is packed with lesser-known byways. Recommended.

Excellent layout and variety of content.
Braeking the state up into sections, the author does an excellent job of describing and presenting the various highlights of each. Equal treatment is given to popular and off-the-beaten-path areas, with sufficient detail for each. It made my recent visit more enjoyable!

Excellent guide for Bitterroot Hikers & Backpackers
Hiking The Bitterroots helped me to explore new trails and see new sites in my area, armed with the knowledge of what might lay over that next hill. Includes trail details such as recommended fishing & camping sites, scenery, milage, elevations, driving directions, and how often the trail is used. Very helpful for someone new to the area and does not know where to begin hiking in the Bitterroot forests and wilderness.

A Horse Named Sky
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (May, 1986)
Author: Barbara Corcoran
Average review score:

really awesome
i have read it at least 15 times and still love it because it really portrays the life of the girl well, because she has divorced parents and has to learn to cope with her new surroundings. It also shows how Sky is broken in or trained well. It has all of the things a good book should have. for all of you people who like sad books, i cry every time i read it at one specific spot.

Really good, Really sad
This book is really good. It's sad, too, which I think makes allbooks more interesting. If I could change anything in the book, I would definately change the ending. Instead of sendining the poor, dying skye off to the MEAT PROCESSING FACTORY where he will have a slow and painful death JUST SO i COULD MAKE A FEW BUCKS, i WOULD HAVE SENT HIM TO THE VET, WHERE HE COULD BE PUT OUT OF HIS MISERY WITH NO PAIN. IF THE GIRL REALLY LOVED HER HORSE, SHE WOULD NOT HAVE SENT HIM TO THE MEAT CANNERY TO BE MADE INTO DOG FOOD.

Inventing the Savage : The Social Construction of Native American Criminality
Published in Paperback by Univ of Texas Press (May, 1998)
Author: Luana Ross
Average review score:

A Brilliant, Honest, Revealing, and Powerful Book
Luana Ross demonstrates superb scholarship by weaving a rich variety of sources, including written documents and oral interviews. The result is a work which provides voice for the women prisoners, in particular Native American women prisoners. This ground breaking book provides an analytical portrayal of the experiences of these women. She sets it within the framework of realities of life in Montana, as well as, larger concepts of racism and colonization. Inventing the Savage is a must read book in the field.

A brilliant study on Native women in prison
This book is a model of what research on Native communities should look like. Ross allows Native women in prison to tell their stories, and then she brilliantly contextualizes these stories within the larger context of racism, sexism, and colonialism. Unlike so many other books on Native communities, she does not portray Native peoples as tragic characters, but demonstrates the ways they resist oppression. A must read

The Killing of Monday Brown: A Phoebe Siegel Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Walker & Co (May, 1994)
Author: Sandra West Prowell
Average review score:

Excellent Mind Ride!
Murder, mystery, suspense, lovable characters with lazer-fast wit and charm. Take the visual detail of Anne Perry, add the fun from Janet Evanovich, and the artfulness of Agatha Christie and you've got THE KILLING OF MONDAY BROWN. WARNING, keep your book out of range from those who might swipe your copy. It's great. And every now and again a chuckle leaks out from the wonderful snappy exchanges between certain characters.

PHOEBIE SIEGAL, PI, is out to find out who murdered MONDAY BROWN, a want-to-be Native American. She takes her investigation in and around the tense lives on and off the reservation with first-person perception, attitude, and humor.

Love this story. Just got BY EVIL MEANS and WHEN WALLFLOWERS DIE. Anyone know when Sandra West Prowell's LAP OF GOD will be released? Please e-mail me if you do. It says in back of book that it will be the first thriller.

One of the best mystery/suspense series around!
Phoebe Siegel is a wise-cracking, gutsy P. I. with a past. She's also one of the most well-crafted and fascinating heroines I've come across in a long time.

In The Killing of Monday Brown, Siegel is hired by a local native American family to locate Matthew Wolf, a family member who is on the run and accused of killing Monday Brown. Monday is a white man living among the Crow community, and has been robbing the graves of Indians, stealing valuable and sacred artifacts for sale in Europe. But Monday is nowhere to be found, and Matthew Wolf is hard to find.

Phoebe's search for the truth leads takes her on a journey deep into the Crow culture and straight into the path of danger. Prowell's vivid exploration of Crow culture makes an already wonderful novel even more fascinating. And it doesn't hurt one bit that, along the way, Phoebe's relationship with sexy police officer Kyle Old Wolf also heats up considerably.

Prowell's ability to write fast-paced, entertaining dialogue is comparable in style and quality to such talented writers as Sandra Scoppettone and Dana Stabenow. The Montana setting is rich in history, culture, and beauty - a truly superb backdrop for the series. And while Montana seems to be a current favorite of writers, Prowell truly brings this area to life in The Killing of Monday Brown, a reflection of her artistic talent as well as her heritage as a fourth-generation Montanan. It's abundantly clear that Prowell has given much thought, heart, and soul to her series' heroine as well as the plot that sustains The Killing of Monday Brown. Phoebe is a deliciously feisty breath of fresh air, and this complicated plot moves quickly and smoothly from its beginning to its highly suspenseful conclusion.

Whether or not you've read the first entry in the Phoebe Siegel series (By Evil Means) you'll find The Killing of Monday Brown a well-written, unique, and very entertaining novel. And if you're a fan of writers such as Dana Stabenow, Sandra Scoppettone, Abigail Padgett, or Janet Evanovich, do yourself a favor and give Phoebe Siegel a try. I'll bet you one beautiful Montana sunset that you won't be disappointed.

A new man..... Hombre nuevo
A new man..... Hombre nuevo
Reviewer: Carlos Avalos from Providence, RI USA
I read this book when I was study Psychology in the Central American University, Nicaragua. The author of the book gives you the opportunity to get a new vision of life. Specifically when he explain to you what mean to be "a new man",("hombre nuevo"). You always could make another extra step if you really have the appropriate inspiration. From that time the idea to be a "new man" is always present in every one and all of my actions. This book changes my life because I got a new perspective of how to see and live my own life. I recommend this book to anyone who really wants to learn and get a high dose of positive stimulus.
